[Advisory] Hot topics - e-Portfolios

Mark, Chris at al,

As some of you know, anything to do with e-Portfolios is my full-time
passion. I have almost 5,000 readers of my blog from 95 countries.

It is a crying shame that Becta appear to have chickened out of anything to
do with e-Portfolios since their initial 'expectation' some five years ago!
I believe that people around the world are looking to the UK for realistic
solutions.

Whether or not a 'hot topic' for conference, I would really like to enter
into a constructive dialogue with others about the place of the e-Portfolio
in an environment where most schools have or expect to have good VLEs with
remote access and on-line reporting etc.

The papers written by the university researchers do not at present provide
realistic models for mainstream education. The institutionalised
e-Portfolios which show some real promise for some schools do not really
meet the criteria of personal ownership and true portability. There is a
need for an e-safe collaborative structure with which school leaders can
feel comfortable. The various DIY versions of blogs and web-pages although
technically interesting do not meet a number of significant criteria.
Questions of management and interoperability need to be understood and
resolved.

I regularly attempt to discuss these questions on my blog:

Can the current assessment system cope with demonstrating gains in eLearning
in the future?

(Eportfolios anyone?)
